How Do You Do it All?

How Do You Do it All?

I get asked this question all the time partly because we have 5 children and partly because we homeschool?  You want to know how I get it all done in a day?  I will tell you, as long as you promise to keep it a secret.  Shhh… it goes…..I don’t.  There is no way on earth, in a million years that I could get everything done, that I need to, in a day…not even if I didn’t sleep!

Trying to homeschool, keep a preschooler and a toddler busy, care for 2 dogs, 2 cats and 2 guinea pigs, make delicious home-cooked-healthy meals, do the laundry for 7 people, clean the house, take meals to those in need, help my husband, run the kids to their activites, spend time with God……wow, I am worn out just typing all of that, and I am sure I forgot half of it!

I have a better secret, there is a way to get it all done.  Here it is…Delegate.  I don’t do all of it by myself.  My kids are awesome helpers.  I will go into chores and such in a different post, but for now I just want you to think about what things you could delegate.  Write a list of everything that someone in your family could do.  If you are trying to do it all, you will be worn out and grumpy.  Now, I will tell you that it does take some training to get jobs done to the standard that you would do them, but it is so worth it to take the time to train in the beginning.

My kids do their own laundry (ages 7 and up), clean all the bathrooms, vacuum, sweep, wash floors, make their beds, clean their rooms, help the younger kids with breakfast, help cook meals, scoop kitty litter, clean the guinea pig cage, empty the dishwasher etc.  These are all things that they will need to learn to be competent adults.  I think it is important to train them to know how to do things while they still think it is fun to help!

A little work isn’t going to kill our kids, it will make them better people and it will allow us to be better moms and to have some time for fun things with our children.

    • Glad that we can encourage one another. Please pass my blog along to anyone else who would benefit from it. Thanks!

  2. Sacha, My mom taught me how to clean a home when I was 5 years old and I cooked along side my grandma…..what wonderful memories I have of the 2 of them…..didn’t always agree or get along, but, always loved them…..
